Now that I'm sitting at the computer writing, I'm thinking of the things that I've been up to since the last blog and there's actually a few more things to add to it than just "stalking" the JPG exhibition..lol. I organized a lunch one wonderful sunny day at Federation Square in the CBD Melbourne for the Meetup social group to get together. We had such a wonderful time and met some new friends, caught up with old ones and just had a great time. The next outing was to the movies, followed by the Victoria Market night market this coming week. There's a Christmas lunch planned, Jazz at the zoo, a ride on Puffing Billy a steam train in the Dandenongs, a trip to a beachside café at Seaford, the zoo and so much more next year. I am so looking forward to those. MY WHEELCHAIR CRACKED UP AND ALMOST BROKE DOWN!
After the lunch I went into the Ian Potter Gallery, a gallery at Federation Square which is a part of the NGV gallery to use the disabled toilet. Unfortunately on my way out due to the time of day, the position of the sun and the pattern of the gorgeous Atrium wall and ceiling on the floor, I clipped the side of my right foot plate on the clear glass sliding door and broke the bolt clean in half that holds it together! The staff came running and of course the first question was "Are you injured"? I was in shock as all my pieces of the foot rest, bits and pieces were all were in place as though someone had put them neatly on the floor. The manager picked up the pieces and I drove to a sofa where I looked at what had happened to then realize the bolt holding it together had snapped clean in half. There was no fixing it on a Sunday. I took a few photos as it was impossible to see the logo on the glass as well as where the door is due to the sunlight, bad white almost clear log and confusing grate on the floor for the airconditioning. I also noticed many people on the other side confused as to where the door was and where to come in. I asked her to put it into my bag on the back, and proceeded to drive out to call for a taxi to get home. There was a fair amount of quiet swearing and shaking of my head going on. I couldn't get a cab so thought I'd come home on the train and drive 15 minutes home from the station as I often did. I had to drive with the chair tilted like an arm chair in the reclined position, and my leg dangling in thin air. The other issue was that I noticed my chair rocking forwards and backwards quite significantly. At first I thought it was my imagination but soon realized it wasn't. It freaked me out! It turned out to be that my shock absorbers had gone on a 4 month old wheelchair! And, that they couldn't be fixed for 4 days until the Thursday. So for 4 days I drove around in the reclined position in my unit rocking forwards and backwards, it was quite funny by Thursday. All is fixed now however I'm slightly paranoid and must admit am a little concerned about it again so will need to keep my eye on that prior to Christmas. Oh what a day that was!
