It's so important for me to be as independent as much as possible. I've always been a very independent and strong willed person. I feel that once you let go of that, you'd never get it back. I've worked to hard to get to where it is now, and perhaps when I'm older I won't be able to do what I do now, so it's important to me.
COOKING
I do most of my cooking myself. I only have a kitchenette in my unit so I don't have a stove or an oven. I know it sounds weird as I'm sure one wonders then how can I cook. I have a microwave, a portable grill, 2 slow cokkers of which 1 is also a steamer and pressure cooker, and an electric frying pan.
I have porridge in the morning done in the microwave. I make a big bowl of salad once a week and put that into containers for each day. Then I add proteing to it. Dinner is either grilled proteing and steamed vegetables, or I cook once a week and freeze food. I cut thre vegetables up once a week as well and put them into containers. I love fressh food. I have fruit hanging around if I'm hungry and usually a fibre cracker. That's it. It's amazing how much you don't need all the big appliances. |
SHOPPING
Mum is fabulous as she does my shopping once a week for me when she does her own shopping.
Electric wheelchairs aren't designed with any kind of place for you to put a bag, can you believe that? And every wheelchair has a maximum weight that it can carry. I use a large bag that I hang over my head rest. I shop 2 ways - - At the shops, and - Online. Inveriably there is always something I have left off the list for shopping, which I buy when I'm out. That includes food, medication, equipment for cooking, or clothes etc. I'll just pop it in the bag however I am very aware of the weight limit. I'll sometimes do my grocery shopping online. I've gotten to know which sites to use for what which makes it very easy. |
CLEANING
The unit doesn't get very dirty other than the electric wheelchair which makes can make such a mess on the floor. When I designed the unit and chose the flooring etc for it, I chose an industrial lino which can endure anything. It's 5 years old now and is still holding it's own. There are 4 small wheels and 2 large tyres on the chair. They can make marks.
I have 3 cleaniong sources. The reasons being that the disease makes me very fatigued. I'm legally blind in my lefy eye and glasses don't help my vision in that eye, so it can be hard to see things. And my left hand and arm are affected buy the disease. = The council come every fortnight for a basic clean. - Mum helps out even though I ask her not to as she's busy enough. - I can sweep and do the basics when I have the energy and can see, lol. |

Due to the damage on my spinal cord from C4 all the way down to ------------- I am unable to do things like SIT UP or roll on to my side, or move my legs whilst I am lying in bed.
