I started the WL blog whilst at the hospital last week, on Tuesday 9th May. That was not a great idea, here is why.
First of all I was feeling very fat and uncomfortable in my body and in the wheelchair. The second reason being that it takes about 4.5 hours for the drug I have for the disease, to go in to my body once it's set up, so I get restless. I also have an injection of 150 mls of steroids (as part of the treatment), which makes me very hungry for carbs and junk afterwards. The drug also plays havoc with my body for about the next three days, so I'm usually off hyper the next day due to the steroids. Then I crash the second day and am exhausted from two days of going out, and long days. I am always busy the day after the treatment, actually like a super energiser bunny! The third day I am still struggling as my legs become very stiff and spasm straight out all the time, they spasm which is very painful. It is almost impossible to bend them. It also upsets my bowel routine by either giving me the runs, or/and constipating me. It takes a lot of planning and training to get a paraplegic bowel and body to work properly, preventing issues during the day or middle of the night.
I then had a birthday, as well as Mum's birthday, which meant food, food and more food. We went out to a great restaurant for lunch. I said to myself that I'd just eat fish and salad, however that didn't work. The idea at this restaurant is to order several plates, and share food. I did say to everyone at the table I just wanted fish and salad. I got my wish, but everyone else ate it as well, which left me eating other food, as I only had tiny portions of my request.
However with the first week being a right off, it did get my mind in order, which then got me in order after the weekend. I was home on the Monday and had lots of energy, so I made a fabulous salad, cut up all my veggies and popped them in plastic containers, so they were ready to be steamed at night. I also cut up chicken breasts ready for grilling, and made a low fat butter chicken, and froze it in the right portions.
On the Tuesday I went locally to have my hair cut, and hadn't had time to have lunch as it was over the period of lunch time. I went to a very healthy cafe near by and bought a selection of healthy salads. BUT I WAS SO HUNGRY BY THEN, so I ordered a hamburger from an app on my phone, which was delivered the minute after I got home.
IMAGINE THE SELF TALK THE FOLLOWING DAY!!! Not happy about the first week, however I did get myself organised for the following week, and feel I have started to change habits, as my mind is now in the right frame, and starting to get of some bad habits that have appeared.
I can say that I always have the same food for breakfast every day. Here is a photo of that.
The photograph of the salad is what I also have regularly for lunch. I prepare it once a week, then put it in plastic containers (like the ones you get when you have takeaway Chinese etc). This makes it easy to grab out of the fridge and then add the tin of tuna. It takes all of 2 minutes to get lunch ready.
